Lately, I am very intrigued by the fact that social bookmarking is beginning to hit as a big topic. Granted, it has helped a lot of traffic to numerous websites as well. To be honest, I actually installed social bookmarking plug-ins last month and I was hoping it could generate fair share of traffic to my site. In fact, I come to realise that it is actually bigger than you expected.

What is Social Bookmarking?

It is basically enabling Internet users to manage, view, store their bookmarks online. There are several social bookmarking websites available and I used some of them. These websites allow you to add your particular page or article, so that it will somehow reach to public easier as there are many people sharing their posts and articles on these social bookmarking sites.

Advantages

• your web page got indexed easier. 
• draw major attention from several sites and finally pointing back to yours
• potentially building the backlinks without tricks
• can also rank a page on how many people have online bookmarked therefore, creating extra credit for your web page/blog
• easy to share among Internet surfers

After I have made a couple of posts, they will definitely be linked to sites such as stumble upon, facebook, digg, live and slashdot. So, here are the lists of social bookmarking sites. If you are using wordpress, don’t forget to install sociable plug-ins, so that you can create more traffic by promoting your own and of course your readers will love to bookmark some of the posts that are useful to them.

Search Engines are clever and sophisticated. Let’s say the Big 3, they are pretty smart and powerful. Search engines are written by a bunch of super geeks and they have several techniques to index your site, not only the text based display.

I have recently written an article about Google’s technology. As soon as opportunity arises, I will also discuss about alexa, msn live and yahoo in the future. 

There are millions of web pages that will not show up in the search engines, because they are being discounted from search engines especially Google search. WHY????? Because they are not having unique contents in the web. Some people like to copy and paste the materials around the world and it will finally come to haunt them in the future because search engines determine which websites are displaying duplicate contents, there are no sense of worry about who started it, but definitely if your website is always publishing original contents, that means you will not be in the same category as “duplicate contents/news feeders” list.

Conclusion: Make your site/blog to be differentiated from other duplicate content websites, that’s the first step of making you more legitimate in search engines world.

Well, this is where all the inbound links matter. It’s very important to link back to your old post according to your relevancy of your current post, so that you will provide your reader/visitor to your website/blog with more information.

I usually link back to my previous posts because I want my readers to have clearer vision of the message I want to give and more information on the subject that should be delivered. Nowadays, readers are very smart, you cannot just sell your products and ads on your page by using some RSS feeds or copy/paste materials, you may be able to do that once, but you cannot do to the same person again. That’s your loss forever and I will not make that happen. 

So, there are two simple ways to link back to old posts. First, put it in the sentence, for example, 

if you want to get more traffic, you should join this fantastic link exchange program, in fact, I am actually a member there. So, you can join me and get more free 30 or more unique visitors a day. The exchange program offers link exchange members to view in directory, so it is more or less, targeted audience as well.

And As a second example, 

Just simply add related topics under your post. Please, See Below at the end of the post.

Therefore, you can offer more comprehensive information to your readers and they will feel that you are actually offering them a FREE and guided facts, in fact, you actually are. It is quite easy to earn poor perception towards your website from visitors, but it is actually great to be appreciated when your readers/visitors enjoy your sharing. 

My main motto is stay true to your readers, slowly build the relationships, share the true information, just pick up your niche and category of passion you want to focus. You will surely succeed.

Webmasters use these words very often, search engines and PageRank. They are the sources of income. In fact, because the more links you are exposed and linked to, the bigger chance of getting more traffic, that will eventually bring possible visitors to become your customers. 

Therefore, Link building becomes one of the excessive used terms among webmasters and SEO experts. As I have explained about how Google and its technology regarding page rank system and hypertext analysis, It is important to build links around your blog/site. I  have submitted to several search engines, you can see major search engines and directory list to submit on the above link. So, that kind of link building is easy to implement. Make sure you have done the same for your website too.

It is important to build quality links and how can you decide what are the quality links? It’s the key of the link building, if you submit at low PR ranking sites and not usually updated sites, it is waste of your time to submit your link. Some blogs are dead and you comment on their sites with your URL, that’s another waste of time.

However, I encourage you to comment on quality blogs (you need to make sure they are not copy/paste, scams, pushing you to click their affiliates or ads and etc). I have made some comments on some quality blogs, I have already saw my sites as back-links because great blogs actually update regularly, keep in touch with readers and utilize SEO properly. So, when I check my links associations, I can easily find out whose sites have quality links and regular updates. So, comment on quality blogs in such a great manner and proper way. Commenting others is not to judge for what they have written, but to understand what the message is all about and contribute your suggestions regarding to the original article. 

Don’t just put your URL and write “visit my site” or “nice one”, if you do not mean it read it, I do not think search engines will not value your input on particular page because you do not really mean it too. Remember, search engines use millions of conditions to index a particular web-page, if you don’t mean it, they won’t feel it too.  Most importantly, discuss in the blogs related to your website you are linking. For example, if you have a “fashion online shop” and if you are writing unrelated comments at “online gamers” site, search engines may not index your site as a qualified back-links. 

So, back to my topic, it’s always good to link to others. And let others link back to you, whatever your site and niche may be, it has to be consistent, regularly updated and keeping the communications alive with your readers/visitors/members.

Also I always allow ping service to my wordpress blog. So, if you are using wordpress like me, when you do the link reference, your website link will be already added. This is one of the powerful features that I have enabled in my blog. So, just feel free to link to my site as a reference, your site link will also be published, as I am always improving my site with search engines, your site will also be counted as a back-link. Because I always do the same when I reference someone else links. It is a win-win situation and very ethical way to link up to one another. And that’s the way google, yahoo! and MSN live bots index the links too. My techniques are simple and no tricks required. But it will also prevent you to get banned from major search engines. 

But please bare in mind, when you write something for your readers, Write for readers, don’t write for google, yahoo or msn, but always comply with what search engines want. Word of Mouth is indeed a powerful thing. That includes people volunterily linking your site and you will get more exposure.  Just remember to give something useful and nice to your visitors/readers. There is always reward for your great hard-work.

09 Oct 08 Adding Google XML Sitemap to your WordPress

When it comes to search engines, top 3 search engines always come to our mind. Of course, they are Google, Yahoo and MSN Search. So, the Internet search world become very common from these 3 search engines. And it’s very important that your website is indexed to those big 3. Some may argue that ask.com is equally important.

Yes, you could say so.. If you believe google, yahoo, msn and ask.com are your main search engines.. This wordpress plug-in will just solve all your problems all at once. Because thse XML compliant site maps will create, update, modify and send update request to google, yahoo, msn and ask.com as soon as you have composed your article/post. 

All the credit goes to Arne Brachhold, who is a creator of this plug-in.  You can download the XML Sitemaps plug-in here. To quote what Mr. ARne Brachhold’s installation instructions, the list can be seen as below. Most important thing is, when you do the ftp, please make sure you use the program that can do “change mode” functions. Some ftp do not offer “chmod” commands for security reasons. I will use the direct reference from original page, so that your installation will go smoother.

Upload the full directory into your wp-content/plugins directory

Use your favorite FTP program to create two files in your WordPress directory (that’s where the wp-config.php is) named sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and make them writable via CHMOD 666. More information about CHMOD and how to make files writable is available at the WordPress Codex and on stadtaus.com. Making your whole blog directory writable is NOT recommended anymore due to security reasons.

Activate the plugin at the plugin administration page

Open the plugin configuration page, which is located under Options -> XML-Sitemap and build the sitemap the first time. If you get a permission error, check the file permissions of the newly created files.

The plugin will automatically update your sitemap as soon as you publish a post. So, you have been successfully completed getting index in major search engines.
